Summertime is finally upon us! Hurrah! Holiday-makers on staycation flock to the shores in search of sunshine and fun times. On a well-deserved break from everyday life, people can finally chill and let go of their inhibitions. It’s a fascinating people-watching extravaganza. This also makes for some great photographic opportunities. Something we explore further in our ongoing Blackpool street photography project.
PLEASURE SEEKERS IN A BRITISH SEASIDE TOWN
The quintessential Great British holiday resort has always been an obsession of ours. If you have grown up making the annual family pilgrimage to the seaside, you probably have a soft spot for Blackpool too. The colourful and quirky seafront continues to attract millions of visitors every year. Regardless of the economic climate, the pursuit of pleasure in the Vegas of the North being their ultimate shared common goal. Happy days!
COLOURFUL CHARACTERS AND SPONTANEOUS SCENES
So, freshly inspired by the Martin Parr ‘Return to Manchester’ exhibition and An Evening with Dougie Wallace, when the wedding calendar has allowed, we started to build our own ‘Blackpool street photography’ collection. With no real initial preconceptions, we set out to embrace the British seaside charm and unpredictability of human behaviour. People are the most exciting subjects and surrounded by pop culture, Blackpool delivers every time. Getting in close can be challenging, but the results are worth it.
FAVE BLACKPOOL STREET PHOTOS
This collection features our favourite Blackpool street photographs from the past twelve months or so (2018-2019) taken in and around Blackpool. These images are not intended as a study of society or class. Just observations of the colourful characters and spontaneous scenes that occur from great days out. But we hope you enjoy making your own interpretations too.
You can also now browse our Blackpool Street Photography collection in the print shop.
