We love living by the seaside for many reasons. Especially having such unusual events like a kite festival on our doorstep, which is always fantastic! It was the fifth annual International Kite Festival in St. Anne’s, Lancashire this weekend. Big thanks to The Grand Hotel’s Instagram for the reminder this year. The event promised to be bigger and better for 2016 including lots of live music. Display teams from across the world joining forces to make one of the largest collections of ginormous kites ever seen. So we were naturally keen to take a look.
LYTHAM ST ANNES PHOTOGRAPHERS
It had been gorgeous summer weather on the Fylde coast too. With the just right kind of winds you need to get these things off the ground we packed our cameras and headed down to the seafront to see what all the fuss was about. Also looking forward to testing out a couple of new geeky camera gadgets in the sunshine too.
We had a refreshing and enjoyable walk along the Lytham St. Anne’s beach – also clocking up over 18,000 steps on the Fitbit tracker no less – and probably should have slapped on some sun cream, a regrettable rookie mistake. But as we got closer to the action, we could see that these guys were clearly not messing around!
FIND FANTASTIC BEASTS AT ST ANNES KITE FESTIVAL
Now forget your childhood Mary Poppins memories of what a trusty old kite looks like. Because these impressive beasts really were huge and took the forms of spectacular shapes and sizes! Maybe it is true that pigs, dogs, cows and hippos and even geckos can fly – and most of all not forgetting our personal favourite, the ninety-eight foot long octopus! Totally amazing! It felt like a surreal scene from a Hunter S Thompson novel, where journalist Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr Gonzo could easily get lost. Both high as kites…So chill, sit back and let’s ride the wind together.
