Gimme five Revivallers! 2022 brought us the fifth mega instalment of Revival Music Festival. For lovers of live music, this tribute-fest has truly established itself as a weekender not to be missed on the seaside calendar. Back with one of the most epic line-ups to date, Revival made a triumphant return to Norbreck Castle in Blackpool. If you are partial to a good ol’ knees-up with top tunes from the nineties and noughties (and wellies not required), then Revival is the place!
NON-STOP BANGERS AT REVIVAL FESTIVAL
Held over two nights and featuring eight of the best tribute bands around, it was non-stop bangers! The new stage setup has brought the bands even closer to the crowd, turning the atmosphere right up to eleven. Revival have also upped their merch game folks (awaiting super-cool hoodie in the post wink-wink). A new production crew this year meant even bigger and better sound and lights too. Billed as the best one yet, we were armed with our cameras and fancy new backstage passes to capture all the action.
Hit play on this playlist for a taster of the big sounds ringing in our ears for days!
FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE CASTLE
Kicking off proceedings were local lads, Alright. Unsigned indie-rockers who walk the walk and talk the talk. The first tribute band to hit the stage were Kings of Leighon. If you fall in the ‘early albums are the best’ camp, you were in luck! The biggies obviously went down a storm and it was a really enjoyable set. The excellent Red Hot Chili Peppers UK were up next. Looking great and sounding amazing, it was another incredible, beat-perfect show. Friday night headliners were local legends Tofu Fighters. Just the high energy, booze-soaked, rock ‘n’ Grohl performance we needed to leave us all thirsty for more!
SATURDAY NIGHT SING-A-LONGS
If Friday had Americana-vibes, Saturday had a very strong Brit-rock line up. Stereotonics set the bar high from the off. Faux-Kelly sounds banging and maintains the illusion, dishing out some decent Welsh bants between tracks. Parka Monkeys then smashed out a mega set of Manchester covers. From The Stone Roses to Courteeners, the crowd were buzzin’ more with every song. The Subarctic Monkeys (no primate relation to the former) have something for everyone, dipping into the Arctic’s six album back catalogue. ‘Four stars out of five’ seems a bit harsh, as they sounded amazing.
Next up were fan favourites Oasish. Keen-eyed punters will appreciate the Maine Road ‘96 clobber, but it’s the epic noise these guys create that really gets the nostalgia pulsing through the veins. Headlining for the third year running were The Kopycat Killers. Those who still have any voice left by now, belt out the classics with the brilliant frontman. So great to see talented musicians performing for packed-out crowds again!
We hear that Revival Music Festival 2023 plans are in motion already. One thing is for sure, prepare for bucket hats and big sing-a-long anthems! So maybe we’ll see you there! Z+L X
