Nevermind Mbappe’s World Cup hat-trick heroics. We are mega excited to have netted our third This Is Reportage Award! Yahoo! Around 12,000 images were submitted from all over the world for this collection, so it was a really special award for us to close a fab ’22. Huge thanks goes out to the awesome judges Martin Beddall, Lori-Anne Crewe, Evelien Hogers, Patrick Lombaert and Phil Voon.
The TiR Awards celebrate only the very best documentary wedding photos, so once again we were buzzin’ to be part of this mega collection. The fact that this was a super fresh image, delivered only a month before made it double-double good! So here’s a little insight in to how this FAN-tastic frame was created:

The Scene
It is no secret that we love to photograph the party times. To truly capture the atmosphere of a top shindig, you have to get involved, and you have to get in close. So having spent the day with Charlotte and Kyle, we knew when the tunes started banging their crew would be tearing up the dancefloor at Sparth House! Once the live sax player appeared and the Tequila Rose polished off, the place was booming.

The Light
Indoor dancefloors are dark and DJ lights can cause some interesting effects. But our trusty go-to lighting setup for dancing shots is a solo flash and bounce combo (aka “The Masterbator Technique”, if you know you know!). Using zero natural light here relies on getting in range to focus on illuminating the action. The harsh light drop off also removes any distraction, adding a cool sense of depth to the frame.

The Moment
Creating everlasting memories of your wedding dancefloor is an honour. We get very excited about these action packed moments. Literally anything can happen, and finding cool angles and compositions quickly is a challenge but great fun. It was a blistering hot room and these white heart-shaped fans appeared, adding an interesting element. Shooting fast and centering the bride, the foreground fans lined up nicely in this frame. It stood out instantly and now proudly hangs (virtually) amongst our award winners. Big shout out to badass bride Charlotte for bringing the energy too! Hawt!
